Signing: Islanders Sign Jay Pandolfo

Training camp tryout Jay Pandolfo, the long time Devil, has signed a 1 year deal with the Islanders. Financial details were not yet disclosed.

AT: In my mind, nothing wrong with this signing. I personally would have preferred Haley over Pandolfo, but Pandolfo does bring a lot of veteran leadership and experience to the team and rounds out the 4th line very nicely. A 4th line of Martin-Reasoner-Pandolfo is very complete and won't be a complete liability on the ice like last year's 4th line tended to be with the likes of Jon Sim and Zenon Konopka. Pandolfo's been in this league a long time and while he won't be contributing much on the scoresheet, will help this team out more than just what we see on the ice. Good signing.

CH: There's really not much negativity to this. If he doesn't perform up to standards, he is easily waived. If he does, the Islanders get a nice veteran with strong penalty kill and defensive ability. Yes, Pandolfo is getting up there in age and is not ideal, but if the Islanders feel that he had a better camp than guys like Micheal Haley then he deserves to be here. The kids that are fighting for spots must always earn their ice time, and if a guy like Pandolfo beat them out, then he deserves to play. My guess is Pandolfo rotates in and out of the lineup with guys like Haley and Matt Martin throughout the year, based on the opponent until the injury bug hits. I would certainly expect him in the lineup come Saturday, playing with Marty Reasoner and either Matt Martin, P.A. Parenteau, or even possibly Nino Niederreiter (though very unlikely).
